This is probably a stupid question, but i'm a Zune user and i'm considering buying a MacBook Pro with my income tax money this year. Will the Zune software actually work on a Mac, or is iTunes the only thing that it will really cooperate with? I've never really used a Mac, so I have no idea what will work with what.
I have about 2,000 songs on my Zune so i'd hate to have it all and get a Mac and it be completely useless.
Make answers as understandable as possible seeing that i'm still using a PC and have yet to enter the wonderful world of Mac.

There is no easy answer to your question. You have one of two options, unless you use iTunes or some other program on your Mac.
first answer:
You have to download Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac first
The software is compatible with both Windows Phone 7 and Zune HD. If you're wondering Zune HD looks similar to Windows Phone 7 but actually uses Windows CE 6.0, an earlier version of Windows Phone.
Your Mac would have to run OS 10.6.6 or later. This is where things get complicated. The easiest way to handle this, is to pay $29.99 and upgrade to OS X Lion 10.7.2 and be done with it. If you are getting it from the store chances are it already has 10.7.2 on it anyway.
Difference between Windows and Mac; short answer is that Mac OS X is based off of Unix. So you're running Unix, but in a proprietary way, sort of how Kindle Fire and Nook Color users are running Android, but in a proprietary way. Windows is something entirely different, as you already know, but it is not Unix.
Your files would also have to be open, non-DRM.
Another thing, you would not be using the Zune software you have, but a newer version meant to work on the Mac that is essentially only compatible with OS X Lion, or OS X Snow Leopard with all of the upgrades installed.
second option:
Virtualization; Boot Camp, Parallels, VirtualBox, etc. It is its own hassle when it doesn't work right, and it would require you to have a copy of Windows installed on your Mac. Cheapest option would be a free environment like VirtualBox, and the cheapest licensed copy of Windows you could find, which will probably be a version of XP you find off of eBay. Either way it is a learning experience.
