How to retexture minecraft food?

I want to know how to Re-skin the food in minecraft for a video I'm doing but I can't figure out how to do that. I know how to edit the terrain like grass and stone but I can't find food anywhere in the .jar of minecraft. Any help?

Inside minecraft.jar there is the folder called 'gui'. Inside there, click on items.jpg
