Will serving in the British Army make me a security risk in the US?

I have dual citizenship and I noticed that my Commonwealth passport allows me to volunteer for the British Army if I so choose. I do not currently live in the US and haven't for many years. I have no intention of relinquishing my American citizenship. I know the State Department discourages citizens from serving in foreign militaries, but the UK is one of our closest allies. Will serving in the British Army impact my ability to get a security clearance with the US government in the future?

Additionally, if the UK and Argentina come to blows over the Falklands and I am deployed there as part of a hypothetical British force, will I be in violation of 18 USC s958?

@RayHere: Interesting, but irrelevant. Politics does not interest me, the profession of arms is all that interests me. I don't know what it's like in the rest of the UK but I lived in London and never ran into any problems from the people there. It was no secret that I was American, everyone could tell at first glance. You shouldn't believe everything you see in the BBC comments section. Half of the people there are Americans moaning about how everyone hates them anyway.

Well I don't think this would make you a security risk. Britain has been like our best friend for ages. The correct question would be if you could get a security clearance with the US Government. I don't know if you could, but your security concerns would definitely be mitigated. http://www.military.com/veteran-jobs/content/security-clearance-jobs/security-clearance-eligibility.html

If the U K and Argentina have a go at it again they will lose as I don't believe Mr Obama will back them this time the saying down there is ''we could beat the British but not the Americans'' and if you live in the U K and watch the BBC you know just how anti American they are today

No one is moaning cowboy just acknowledging, you know it is true the whilst boys love to rag the hell out of of the yanks I know I lived and working with the Brits boys and paid many back for there disrespect and they all seem so shocked when it comes back to bite them on the as#

As Paul S says not something to stress approximately interior the British military. Irish Guards are actually not basically called that! you're able to have the skill to get a loose 3-4 day "look at existence" with the Irish Guards and you'd be able to work out what the serving squaddies are like.

I'm not sure but since the UK is our closest ally I would guess no. There were plenty of Americans who served in the British Military in World war II
