My Acer laptop won't connect to the wireless network?

I have an Acer Aspire 5733Z-4851 laptop and a netgear router. Usually I can connect it to the router with an ethernet cable, but it has never connected wirelessly, although it has a wireless card built in. For some reason, now when I connect it (wired) it won't connect to the Internet. I keep getting a notification from Windows saying that it can't connect to the internet (it'll say this when I attempt wired and wireless connections, I simply don't know what to do at this point). Please help!

Reset the router and modem, unplug both wait 5 minutes then plug in the modem wait till all lights settle and for it to connect then plug in router wait for all lights to settle and for it to connect then set up the wireless or wired connection.
