Caution if you are looking to buy a horse!?

Please check the papers for the description that is on the papers.

My daughter recently went to one of the Billings Montana sales and bought a horse for $1800.  She saddled it up in the parking lot went to get on and the horse just exploded as she was stepping on, she stepped off and the horse bucked through the parking lot.
 
She caught caught him, looked at his teeth and the were  not 5 yr old teeth.   She checked the papers and the horses markings did not match the papers.    She went to the office and because of that she did not have to take the horse.    So the brand inspectors did not verify the horses markings when they checked him in.

She heard after that that same fellow would often bring bad horses to the sale and represent them as gentle anyone can ride.

Be careful when buying a horse.

this would be why you personally look at the horse and check it out, or even bring a vet to check the horse. 

Don't believe what the owner wrote on the description of the horse, as far as you know the horse has only been haltered once. 

The horses that are broke and can be a "anyone/family horse" are rode through the ring, these people want their horse to sell for top dollar.

Glad to hear you got your money back.  That's one reason you ALWAYS want to  see the horse rode first, even then you have to beware of bute being used to calm the horse.  It is too bad the auction yards and not more thorough in what they sell. 
They should not only have the vets do a coggins, but they need to have time to do tox screens. Unfortunately that would take days, to do many horses in a auction.  Would sure stop the bad guys.

Well usually before I even consider giving my money away, I'm smart about it by taking the horse on trial and getting a vet check. I also ride the horse in an arena, not an unsafe parking lot...

That's why you don't buy a horse you don't know anything about and then just take it out to the parking lot and try to ride it when you have no idea how far his training has gone. Wow, how smart.

Common newb mistake. Most people with common sense will be more cautious when buying a horse..especially at a sale.
