Which version of the bible do you most prefer?

Original KJV? New KJV? Or some other versions such as New Living Translation (NLT) or NIV?

So far I have two bibles that are NLT. It is clear and precise to read, and makes sense, but I find KJV or NKJV is, yes difficult to read, but the words are more beautifully read than newer translations. I believe it helps to have both versions.. read KJV primarily, but when you have difficulty reading a verse, read the newer translation to clarify.

@Mace: Thank you for your clarity on that. I didn't know.
@Sparrow: For clarity. Not everybody can understand or read KJV, especially newer readers.

The old KJV is the most accurate, although the hardest to read due to the old english. The NIV I would avoid. It was "translated' or should I say "paraphrased" by non-christians being paid to make it sound good. I don't know about you but I wouldn't trust that.

I like New King James for memorization and study, but I enjoy reading different translations as well. Currently I'm reading through the New Revised Standard that includes the apocryphal books. The Complete Jewish Bible is a good read as well and the NIV (not the newest one). NLT is a good one also but I do not have my own copy yet.

New Jerusalem Bible (in my opinion the most accurate and precise English translation currently available).

The new updated NIV.
Mind you, the "Street Bible" is a great fun read, and puts some of the more complicated passages in to really down to street-level talk

Biblia Sacra Vulgata, or general use the older Holman Edition (King James, 1611).
