It's a very small, compact shelf system if that matters. It has cd and mp3 capability, but I can only get the one station. I'd like to get more than that, so how do I rig it to do so? It came with an "antenna" and wire, but no matter what I do, or how I attach/ position it, it doesn't help with tuning and receiving other stations... Thanks in advance for any advice.

Assuming your other radios receive more than just the one station, you either have a bad radio, and should take it back as it is defective or you need a better antenna.
If you really are in such a weak signal area however, an external antenna may be called for. From the tone of your question however, I'd guess the later is NOT the case.
what you DON'T need is to pay for radio ....

Sheesh Grassy -- what'd I do to you? No credentials? I have only held an FCC broadcast license since 1978 and have been fixing (yes tube, but also transistor) radios since before you were probably born, but that is irrelevant to this. A radio that only gets one station is pretty likely defective/broken -- (and the only people pushing satellite radio are those who don't have enough monthly bills already)!

It maybe a subscription network like Sirius/AM. You mayl have to pay a connect fee and a monthly fee.
If it is not a subscription networkm take the unit back to where you purchased it and ask for a replacement.
