What can I eat that's healthy when you are poor?

Me and my friends are trying to get on a diet but are having a hard time affording healthy foods (paying rent at parents houses, saving for a car etc. its eating our money away).

So far we can afford healthy foods for the first week and a half but then have to switch back to nasty junk food later because its so cheap and convenient. We are truly poor we came from poor families who couldn't afford to give us proper food growing up so now we have to deal with health problems that also are expensive to treat. No food stamps no government assistance whatsoever because where we live their are many lying people on gov.assistance saying they are poor!

Thankfully we invested in (three)chickens so we have eggs daily.
Anyways what can we buy at the store that's cheap and simple,me and my friends don't even care about taste anymore as long as its healthy and cheap.

Thank you in advance

Alot can be bought in bulk and aren't too expensive. I am 16 and work part time but I am a vegan, and my eating habits are different from my families so I do my own shopping. I listed some foods I can't or don't eat but I shop for my family as well so I sometimes pick up other items that are always inexpensive but healthy. Really though there is alot you can buy that is cheap yet doesn't have to taste like it. I have left out so many foods I buy or stock up on, but the idea is the same, store brands, buy in bulk and plan for meals if possible.
I admit I don't have much experience with meats though, as I don't eat it, but chicken and pork chops usually are quite inexpensive and can be healthy if trimmed or the skin removed, steamed or baked instead of fried.I usually end up cubing the meat and looking for cheap fresh veggies or even bulk frozen veggies, and making a stir fry or casserole. I can't even begin to list everything, but It helps to plan meals and shop accordingly, being able to pick up ingredients you will use in 2-3 different meals etc. Check online for alot of inexpensive recipe or meal ideas as well, I know I have found alot I still use.

Avoid alot of canned foods as they are high in sodium or expensive compared to fresh.
Frozen dinners are also high in sodium and usually full of ingredients that aren't so healthy.
Avoid foods with MSG or partially hydrogenated oils.
Change how you cook foods, steam, bake and grill if possible, even an inexpensive electric grill is a good investment.
Avoid too much salt or seasonings, which usually are full of MSG and add too much sodium as well, there are plenty of dried herbs and spices without additives and relatively cheap that you can flavor foods with.
A slow cooker is another cheap but worthwhile purchase that can turn inexpensive cuts of meat into tender and flavorful meals.

You invested in 3 chickens instead of just using that extra time saved for caring for them to earn money? Healthy foods aren't that expensive, it should be cheaper since you are cooking the food rather than cooked for you. Eggs are cheap, wheat bread is cheap, some meats are cheap and fruits/veggies are cheap. 20 dollars per person a week isn't that much?

Cheap foods, chicken breast 5lb bag $10, salmon 1 lb bag $5,tuna packs $1, broccolli $2 lb, tomato .15 lb, cabbage $1, yams 40c lb, lettuce $1, wheat bread $3, 2 doz eggs $5, greek yogurt $4 4pk, 24pk ramne $3, water $0 it's free

This is close too what I buy weekly for my summer diet it should last you a week for under $40 and will get you toned down and ripped up.

I wish you the best in however you loose those unwanted pounds because I know how it is coming up poor and trying to stay healthy. However, healthy food isn't the only way you can still eat things your use to just in moderation read the nutrition facts look for high protein. As long as your burning more calories than your eating you'll be good.

Well you can buy Pam which is a replacement for oil and it doesn't have calories and it lasts long. Also you can buy Silk milk instead of regular milk and its about the same price as regular milk. Also replace white bread for whole wheat ... and if you aren't eating as healthy then at least do excersizes at home and walk as much as possible... good luck :)
