You have to enjoy what you are writing. You know what kind of books you enjoy to read, right? So write something you would want to read! If you want someone to come right out and tell you, I have a few ideas based on different genres you might enjoy.
A young girl, around the age of twelve, has been taken from her home in the middle of the night after watching the death of her own parents. As her kidnapper unveils a little bit about why he chose this family to follow and this particular young girl to take... (fill in the blank! that's the fun part about writing!)
A summer fling that only began because the death of a best friend. A girl meets this boy at her friend's funeral and they hit it off (learning new things about her friend and about this new boy) (now take it however much further you want!)
If you are more interested in an adult kind of writing (which I don't think you would be) try writing about a man who has just been drafted into the war but skips out because he doesn't want to leave his family. The consequences of that are worse than being out there, though, because it puts his family in harms way... (how? You pick!)
Something on the cute and sweet side; a little boy and a little girl are the 'should have been a couple' picks for the 2nd grade prom night if there was such a thing. When the little girl moves away though, both their worlds change drastically. By chance, ten years later, they accidentally bump into each other and... (up to you!)
