Dog's paws have a special layer which protects them from feeling pain from walking on rough terrains. This is because dogs are animals, and have adapted to living outside, with all sorts of things on the ground. If your dog is used to soft ground, he will soon adapt to the stones. If sores or cuts appear on his feet, you could try getting some paw protecting boots/shoes especially made for dogs, which will help prevent injuries on his feet. Hope this helped, good luck!:)

By rocks you mean she wants to cover the whole area with pebbles or gravel? Or just place a few decorative larger rocks around the place?

If it is the pebbles or gravel ......... your dog will probably not like it...... and since they have sharp edges he might get hurt on them too. Pretty uncomfortable....

I'm sure he would get used to it but it sounds like a horrible idea. She would never dream of putting rocks in her home why would she want to put rocks in his living room?? Tell her I said so.

I can forsee cuts and ankle sprains on this irregular surface

depends on the size and how they are
can you maybe post a picture on how they are going to look?
