I have a 2002 volvo S60...well, it over heated yesterday and the head gasket blew. If it was you would you replace the gasket and have the heads checked or would you replace the whole engine? Thanks for any advice.

If you or whoever did not drive long after overheating than I would just replace the head gasket and resurface the head. Seems cheaper and easier, also depending on mileage too.
Why replace the whole engine when you don't have to? A engine replacement (done by a shop) will cost thousands more than a head gasket and/or head replacement.
