I have a virus that redirects me to ads every time I click on a link on a google search. What do I do?

My anti virus program AVG isn't detecting it, and I don't know how I can get rid of it. What can I do?

*I click on the link once and it redirects me to some ad site, then I hit back and click on it again and it takes me to the site I want to go to.

There are a few malware programs/ browser hijackers that can cause
that.

I suggest you follow the instructions at Bleeping Computer for removing
one such piece of malware. Even if the instructions are not exactly for the
malware causing your problem, the procedure and tools used are basically
the same.

If those instructions and tools do not solve your problem,
post your problem in BC's "Am I infected, what do I do" forum.

It sounds like you have a Googleredirect virus; which can be a royal pain.
Personally, I have MSE and Malawarebytes on my system now and I just
do not have any more problems with such viruses.

Since I have been told that Googleredirect is a rootkit virus you may want to
take it to a professional tech to be cleaned.

Your computer has been infected with a browser hijacker malware which is known as Google redirect virus, this virus which comes to your computer through a TDSS trojan infection, will redirect your search queries and web links to unwanted/wrong websites with spam ads and promotions. to get rid of this redirect virus, follow this tutorial
