Teens with tattoos: Getting my first tattoo tomorrow? Any advice?
I am a bit nervous, just about the pain. I have a lot of piercings, but needles always make me very light-headed, and I want to avoid that from happening tomorrow. I'm getting an average sized tattoo on my wrist/forearm. How can I keep calm and not let my mind focus too much on it? Thanks.

You need to make sure that you eat beforehand, because if you don't, you'll get extremely lightheaded and most likely pass out. To stay calm, just think of something other than what you're doing. When I was getting my first tattoo, the tattoo artist kept talking to me about random things and it really helped to keep my mind off of things. Whenever the feeling got too overwhelming, I would take deep breaths and distract myself from the pain with my phone or something. Keeping yourself distracted is really important. If you think the sound will get to you, try taking your iPod. That's what my friend does when she's getting a tattoo, because she can't stand the sound. Whatever you do, don't look at the needle. That will really freak you out if you're not good with them. I made the mistake of doing that while I was getting my first tattoo and I nearly died (Okay, well not literally, but you know what I mean). I started freaking out so bad that I was almost crying, but luckily my tattoo artist calmed me down by talking me through it and telling me to breathe. It's not that bad. It will hurt, but it's nothing unbearable.
Don't get wasted. It's a bad thing to do. Just eat a nice meal before doing it. My artist said she's had people faint on her because they didn't eat anything and we don't want that happening to you so just eat :) If it starts to hurt too much, focus on your breathing. That helped me a lot. Breath in, hold it for as long as you want, and then let it out slowly. It helps because you are focused on your breathing pattern and not the pain (that's if you have any though). If needles freak you out, don't look. Listen to music or something or watch a video on your ipod. I hate needles but I still got my piercings and my tattoos. During everything, I was always listening to music. Just try not to think too much about it once you're there. You'll psych yourself out and the pain will be much worse than it actually is.
Make sure you eat! They will ask if you ate, so make sure you eat a big breakfast and keep talking to the tattooist. or take some music. Ummmmm just breath calmly. thats all i can really say :3 Good luck!
