Can you drive a 05 chevy equinox without the drive shaft?

The drive shaft have been taking out and the mechanic said it was okay to drive without it ..it just won't be 4wd just 2wd ..is it ok to drive it for a few weeks until we get the money to replace the center part of the drive shaft that is broke?

It just powers the back tires. I don't see why you can't drive it.
