I'd be interested to find out what Nick's position is regarding the screaming that at least two of his players [Seles, Sharapova] are known for, and on screaming in general, as far as it's overall effect on the game. IMHO, it's not good for tennis, but as Tilden once said, "Pro tennis will succeed in spite of itself."
Specifically, does Coach Bollettieri consider grunting, screeching, etc, at contact with the ball to be gamesmanship, or is it natural and ought to be perfectly OK with everybody?
Laver, Ashe, Stan Smith, Newcombe, Rosewall, Borg, Federer, etc etc etc never made vocal noises during the point. So IMHO, it's not necessary, and in fact, it's an ugly, obnoxious method of irritating the opponent, not to mention spectators.
Exactly why the ITF has refused to write a rule to make it worthy of a code violation is a mystery. Calling it a "hindrance" is a bit like calling chiseling on line calls, stalling, etc a hindrance.
Play well, my friends :-)
