Can you break a hen of being broody?

I am a novice backyard chicken owner and this past weekend, purchased a Cochin Partridge hen who is around 2 yrs old. I have read a few place that they can be a broody breed, and was just wondering if it is possible to break them of this if all they do is brood? this is really not an issue at all as I am just happy to have them in the yard. [oh, i forgot to say that they are in quarantine at the moment]. any good info would be MOST appreciated! thanks!!

Hen in question has only been laying for a year.

Yes you can! If you take her favorite nest and hang it so it swings or rocks when she's in it, she'll get discouraged. Or you can pester her every day. We've had a crabby hen just get plain mad and he quit brooding from constant bothering her (our goal). Best thing to do to prevent broodiness, just keep the eggs picked regularily. However there are those stubborn hens that will go broody on an empty nest. We had a buff Orp go broody over a light bulb she found in the garage! Lol

you're no longer waiting to make chickens bypass broody. based on the breed the often it's going to bypass broody. sure Hens will hatch different hens eggs and take care of them whether they'll now no longer take care of different chicks that they did no longer hatch. in the event that they do no longer bypass broody you will take the eggs and located them in an incubator. additionally with the help of way of awesome fertile eggs in an incubator you're becoming to be chicks all 365 days around.

No, you can't break them of that - just be sure to remove any eggs she lays, or replace them with plastic or rubber eggs and let her be as broody as she wants - she's getting to an age where her egg laying won't be as often as before, so it won't really matter that much.
Good Luck!
