Some questions about Cavalier king charles spaniels.?
Since I am thinking about getting a CKCS puppy to raise I have some questions. Do they shed really bad? Are they known for having bad odor? Do they all have life ending health issues or have high medical bills? Are they easy to train and house break? Do they make a good lap dog? Do they stick to your side? Do they have sensitive stomachs? Do they bark a lot? Just some facts: I want to get a female. I have had two small dogs before. I want a dog that's not aggressive towards people and other animals. Thanks soooo much! :)

I totally recommend this breed! I have a four year old CKS, and I adore him. He is the sweetest, happiest thing in the world and all of our friends and family agree!
They shed, no denying, but not too bad. They are dogs, if you brush them a few times a week and vacuum once a week it is very manageable!
The only odor I can smell is his breath- pew! I give him Greenies breath cleaning bones, and they help a lot!
They are known for heart problems that could be very serious, and increase with age. Make sure you get one from a reputable breeder that checks for these problems, because they are in the genes of the parents.
These dogs are not the brightest, but they ARE the sweetest! All they want is to please you. With a little work, you can train them no problem.
These dogs are THE BEST lap dogs! They were bread for it- to sleep on the kings lap and warm his bed:) I can't even start to sit down and my baby is in my lap. He defiantly is NOT happy unless he is right by you!
My dog, and all the other CKS's I know, are very loyal. They follow me around the house, whether I'm watching TV, cooking in the kitchen, sleeping in my bed, doing the laundry in the basement. Sometimes I don't even notice him, he just sits their, wagging his tail, and waiting patiently for some love <3
My dog doesn't have a sensate stomach, and neither do the others I know. However, my baby gets very sad when we are at school and work and won't eat until we come home. Occasionally, he will eat so fast when we arrive home that he will throw up. This is only a few times tho!
My dog rarely barks- he cries sometimes if you hurt him or leave, but just a small yelp for a second. He barks when he is scared- when he sees his reflection! The only other time he barks is when he gets out of the car, he sprints to the front door, barks/yelps while running in a circle waiting for us to let him in to his house;) so adorable!
I greatly recommend this dog! Many of our close friends recently adopted some because they loved my dog so much, they are the best breed! They are in no way aggressive at all! This is a choice you won't regret. The biggest downfall by far to this breed is that they do have heart problems as they age, but if you adopt from a reputable breeder the chances are greatly reduced!

Wow, lots of questions: They shed but can be controlled with extra amino acids in the food and brushing. No odor really, but that depends on diet. Health issues, yes. Heart and knees. Medical bills, depends on how well your breeder did on breeding these pups. House train. That depends on you. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Great lap dogs. Stick to your side? training will do this. Sensitive stomachs? Depends on your breeder and food you feed. You are what you eat. Bark? They are pretty quiet dogs. This is not an aggressive breed,they are friendly, loving and sweet both male and female.
almost all CKCS suffer from mitral valve disease (heart problem and is genetic). Syringomyelia 90% have but not all are symptomatic thrombocytopenia ,Macrothrombocytosis Hip and knee problems (luxating patella) Eye problems and ear problems.
while a lovely sweet dog, you need to make sure you get one from a reputable breeder who regularly tests their dogs for these congenital defects to make sure you get a healthy dog. These lovely little dogs are not cheap, usually running in the 2-3k because of all the real testing you need to do on the parents. If a breeder will not answer questions about test results or show you results, find another breeder.
