What happened to the £1 (riddle)?

A t-shirt costs £97.

As you don't have any money you borrow £50 from your mum and £50 from your dad.

£50 + £50 = £100

So after buying the t-shirt for £97 you have £3 left.
You give £1 to your mum, £1 to your dad, and £1 you keep for yourself.
Then you owe your mum £49, and your dad £49.

£49 + £49 = £98 + £1 = 99...
What happened to the other pound??

This riddle has been bugging me for days! Would really like a good explanation!!
:o)

I don't think there is a missing pound.

Your debt is 98, by returning some of the money technically you only borrowed 98. You paid 97 for the shirt and kept 1 for yourself. 97+1=the 98 you borrowed. P.S. you still owe mum and dad each half of that pound you kept.

you had three pounds left right? You gave one to your mum one to your dad and the other one you kept for yourself right?
so you owed mum 49
you owed dad 49
which equals 99 BUT the missing pound is with you because you kept it!

You kept it for yourself.
