My Definition of marriage is simple- Two people that love and care for each other and what to spend the rest of their lives together. 2 people. shouldn't matter who those two people are.

The fact that gay marriage is not legalized is illegal. The separation of church and state should eliminate all religious arguments from this issue, and since that's what is REALLY holding people up, it makes it illegal. Now people are trying to argue that marriage is all about reproducing - so does that mean that infertile men/women should not be married? In my opinion, if you're going to ban gay marriage because two people of the same sex cannot naturally make a baby together, then all marriages where the couple does not want to have children or cannot physically bear children should be invalid. You can't have it both ways!
Now, I don't think that people who are infertile should not be allowed to be married. I agree with you - marriage is about love and commitment, not about sex or who is marrying who. I'm really tired of gay rights being a political issue. It needs to just be granted already, or our political officials need to be kicked out of government for breaking the law! Follow the Constitution or stop calling yourself a patriotic American.

In time even if it was put to a democratic vote it will be passed eventually. The tide is unstoppable. There are nations where it can already pass this way in the world. The USA will eventually catch up, the diversity, divisions, culture etc just stalls it.
Mob rule is not democracy. Your founding fathers separated government, installed an independent judiciary, wrote a constitution with the specific intent to limit power and channel its use. The supreme court routinely strikes down popularly passed legislation, effectively protecting the dumb people from themselves.

I believe if you read the First Amendment, you'll find that the founding fathers didn't consider "it's against God" to be a valid legal argument either---hence the "separation of Church and State," ruled by the Supreme Court, operating off of what Thomas Jefferson said was the intent of the amendment.
If you read the Fourteenth Amendment, you'll find that there is no permission in the Constitution for sex-segregated marriage. It is unconstitutional to give men a right that women do not have, or to give women a right that men do not have. Currently, in many states, men have the right to marry women, but women do not. Women have the right to marry men, but men do not. That is sex-based discrimination in marriage, and it is illegal.
Now, just in case you're stubborn, and say that it's not discriminatory because men and women have equal rights, they're just DIFFERENT rights.... Brown v. The Board of Education. End of discussion.

Any two or more people can love and live together for as long as they wish. The state will sell you a license for a very modest price but a divorce will cost you a fortune. Leave the state out of it and it won't cost you anything.
