Do dogs know our names?
I've always wondered, I have 6 people in my house. Would the dogs know from the constant calling of my name from family and friends?

I definitely think they can know names of people if they are in regular contact with them and hear their name used often enough and combined with certain actions.
If I say to my dog "where`s Rosco" (my other dog) he will go and look for him and vice versa.
also one of my dogs can identify colours. They have 4 rubber tug toys all the same shape and size but different colours. Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green. I put them in line and ask my dog "Where is the Blue one? or where is the yellow one and 99% of the time he picks up the correct coloured one and brings it to me. This did take a bit of conditioning him to the various colours but it does show that he can identify one colour from another in objects that are the same shape and smell.
I believe dogs are much more astute than we give them credit for.

My dogs knows my sons name. I ask her to find Oskar and she runs to him. It's probably because he's only a toddler and I'm constantly saying his name, and were at home most of the day so she's hearing me call his name a lot :)

Honestly, I've used names that I would name my children on animals before. I've had a cat named Alice and Alice has been my top name for a daughter for least 4 years now. So it really just doesn't bother me at all that you want to use your dogs name. Harry isn't a terrible name and it's not a dog name, so it's not "abuse" to name your son that if you really love it. If it was Rocket or Skipper I'd have a problem, but Harry is fine. It would be best to go with Harrison with the nickname of Harry so it isn't exactly the same as the dog. If you worry too much about it, tell people you named the dog after the baby and not the other way around. Or just use Harrison when people are around. If you do have other names that you would place above Harry, go ahead and consider using a different one. But if you're set on Harrison and both of you love it, use it and don't worry about it.
