I set the timing. It seems like the car is choking itself out and the computer doesnt advance the timing soon enough...I checked timing and it is where it is supposed to be...

THANK YOU EVERYONE......We found the problem since this car doesnt get driven as much we disconnect the battery when we dont use it... We found in the chilton guide that when you interrupt power to the idle control valve you need to do a reset ...which is starting the car for 5 seconds turning it off for 10 seconds and restarting...it seems to have fixed the problem thank you so much!

Vacuum leak is most likely. Check/replace all vacuum lines in the engine bay. You can test for leaks with a propane torch (unlit) spraying around the engine...if idle increases, you've found the vacuum leak.

Do a good check of the engine bay while you are in there....plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all wiring connectors, etc.

Edit: how did you check/set timing? You did it the correct way, with the EST bypass disconnected, probably 0* base timing, then re-connected? You say you checked it and it's where it is supposed to be, if it's at 0* and you didn't unplug the EST, you've got problems. Should idle around 20* with the EST bypass connected.

Does the engine stall when you move the transmission lever to neutral? If so, there's a neutral park safety switch on the lever linkage that could be bad. Otherwise, you should try reading out your OBD-I computer error codes on your dash engine light or have a repair shop read out the error codes. Then there's all sorts of reasons for the problem beginning with basic ignition, engine and exhaust problems.

Why not tell us everything you've tried so we don't suggest things that you've tried?
