R&P: What's it like being 20? ?

Is it everything it's cut out to be?

BQ: favourite album(s) at the moment?
BQ2: Were you just as psyched for Arctic Monkeys at the Olympics as I was?

Cheers

@Hep: Is that Kerouac? It sounds like it would be. Is it "On The Road" or something?

when i was 20 and living in new york city it was abrupt and contrived. i was real careful at punk rock shows and was always trying to prove something to everyone i met. i was jumping all over the place and misspelling words and walking up and down sidewalks trying to think of something that'd be important and useful. i was talking to myself. in January i remember making money giving rides around the city in my dad's old pick-up truck; rivers of feverish and artificial monologue directed at my passengers kept me safe at water's length. that year i didn't cut my hair and i didn't shower. i wanted to move to Ellis Island so i could say hi to the immigrants. i wanted to be Humphrey Bogart . i had a garden on the roof of my apartment building, i grew tomatoes and sold them for what they were worth. 20 isn't sainthood

I feel I am especially equipped to answer this question as I have spent the last 350-some days being 20. Being 20 is like being the only banana in a carrot store. When you're 20 you will own a cat that will always have dilated pupils. His hobbies will include stepping on your drawings and night time meowing. You will have a fake job. You will own more clothes that you like, but you still wont like all of your clothes. You are approaching your peak in fashion, you can't be bothered to exercise your influence as an arbiter of fashion though, because you're 20, and you woke up late this morning (this will happen every morning). Being 20 is ultra unfair. You are way smarter than everyone else but no one believes you. Some of your friends will begin having children. You will laugh derisively at them. For the first time, your peers are settling into wildly different life paths. You will have sex and/or do drugs one too many times with the wrong person. You will start hanging out with someone who you'd never guess in a million years that you'd ever start hanging out with. You will watch all of 30 Rock, Arrested Development, Trailor Park Boys and Doctor Who on Netflix. People think 20 year olds should always be having fun so don't you dare ever look like you're down. It is OK to condescendingly ask a 20 year old what is wrong with them. If you see an old man with a grumpy disposition, no one ever asks them what's wrong. This might be viewed as a mixed blessing by some. As a 20 year old, you are not allowed to want to be alone. You will look at pictures of attractive 20 year olds from the 60s and become depressed. You will become unbearably aware of the horribly awkward mannerisms of teenagers. You will not be able to look them in the eye. You will have more free time than you've ever had before and you will waste all of it.

I'm 20 but I feel exactly the same as I did when I was 17. I don't even see myself as an adult. A few years ago, I used to respect 20 year olds and view them as mature grown-ups. Now, I see myself and anyone else around my age as a kid, still. People are like, "Let's ask that lady over there for information." And in my head I'm like, "What lady? Oh, I think they mean me."

It really is important for you to have a job. I'm having serious trouble gaining a lasting one. I've had a string of short part time jobs but through bad luck and sheer incompetence, I've lost them all. It sucks. Don't let yourself get into that position.

I like metal and alternative music but since February, my favourite album has been "Alive" by a Korean group called Big Bang. Kind of obsessed with them and their leader.

And I haven't watched the Olympics this year, sorry. :( All I know is that Mary Poppins apparently defeated Voldemort.

It's not really that different from being 19, aside from the fact that its a tiny bit more imperative to have a job already, as opposed to a 19 year old haha.

Been listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, for some reason. Down By The Seaside has been hammering itself into my head lol.

And yes, I loved that performance of course! haha. great song and they played a great version of it as well, they blended a little of their own style in it during the choruses by speeding it up.

I remember thinking that I was officially a real adult lol.
I have been listening to Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures pretty frequently
