How to stop a buffer overflow?

Ok, so my friend is currently having a buffer overflow on his computer. And he was wondering how to delete or stop it from happening. He's already restarted his computer several times, and cleaned out the dust in his computer. He even tried a system restore, however, the issue is still there. Any suggestions? I'd like to help my friend but I really don't know how, and I'm not exactly a computer genius. Help?

System restore only restores system files, the ones used by the Operating System. It does nothing for installed programs/viruses. A buffer overflow is either caused by a program with poorly written code or a malicious program such as a Trojan.

You friend most likely has some type of malware on his computer. You will want to start it in safe mode, usually F8, and run a virus scan. Malwarebytes is pretty good and might be able to find whatever is causing it.

This is not caused by failing hardware, it is a software issue.
