Road Bike or Mountain bike?

I want to get a bicycle that i can ride around town so i dont have to spend so much money on gas, and for the exercise. I want to know what kind of bicycle would better suit me. the most i would be traveling is about 3 miles and mainly on the road and some on sidewalk and grass. Would a road bike/mtn. bike/ or hybrid bike be the best for my scenario? If possible wich one would be the cheapest?

If you intend to ride on roads and grass, then a hybrid will be best. You shouldn't be riding on the sidewalk.

If you only want to ride on roads then a road cycle will be better, but you can get performance hybrids that are almost as good.

Get along to your local cycle store, and tell them what you want the cycle for, and they will suggest some in your price range. Try them for size and fit, and if possible take some for a test ride. Buy the one that suits you the best.

What is your terrain in the area you ride in very hilly ,somewhat hilly, flatish but anyway road bikes are the best for straight up pavement use but really not good off gravel/dirt paths . A cylcecross bike is a road bike with thicker tires that the best option for multi use if you like that riding postion .

The hybrid in my opinion is your best bet its an upright bicycle and you can do pavement pretty well as a little gravel/dirt.

A MTB with 1.5-1.75 tires for the short pavement -gravel/dirt rides is fine too but tell me to be riding on the sidewalk in certain areas is that part of the road too dangerous or pedestrains there for that .

GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike is Fabulous bike!!! It appears that they have thought of everything for the rider. Don't know about jumping or other extreme sports, but for everyday use it's right on. Workmanship is defined by the details and this bike has it. No sloppy welds anywhere.

Cody

Hybrid. The grass is the decider. The man bike will be far heavier and slower than the hybrid.

hybrid would be cheapest and do all that
though for real road use you will want a road bike
and for any serious off road a hybrid won;t work either
they can be decent bikes though
