To buy new in London it will be very expensive consider how much you can get for your property. I would recommend moving somewhere on the out skirts of London due to it being much cheaper and has a train line that takes you straight into central London. Defiantly visit London first to make sure that you want to move there. Don't just move to London because you have seen it on TV and like the accent consider whether English life suits you both countries have there differences. Also consider the fact that jobs are hard to come by in England right now unless you have the qualifications. Good luck! If you want to know more about London/England you can always message me :)
Papers aside ( I think you need to get appropriate work/student visas first), I would get rid of a good deal of your clothes, housewares, electronics/appliances (at least those that you can easily get replaced, or will be hard or impossible to adapt to standards there).
I would probably start with a good bit of savings to live off of, by renting a furnished flat and then go job hunting, then moving into a more permanent rental flat or terrace house, and set up home there.
I'm moving to England next week! When I moved from England to Canada, my dad was offered a promotion, and we stayed in a hotel for a month while we searched for a house. If you don't plan on returning to new york then you would sell your house!
I would think wisely about bringing your stuff or not because you want to make sure you have enough money for the house and new stuff. I would recommend selling some and keeping some.
