How to tell puppies apart?

We have 10 golden doodle puppies, born 2 days ago. 5 black with some face markings, 5 golden retriever colored. We need a way to tell them apart. We tried the different colored ribbon around the neck, but the dam (mother) took them off within an hour. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance

Nail polish, a different color for each pup, on the same nail. Make sure that it is non-toxic and keep mom from licking until it is dry.

The other method is to clip hair in different places, but most breeders just use ribbon or collars - since they are ACTIVELY supervising the dam they can discourage her from removing them and replace them immediately when she does.

Since you are naturally tracking weight gain at least daily and carefully ensuring proper socialization and stimulation, it is important that you are able to tell the pups apart.

I'm kind of shocked that your vet and breeding mentor didn't talk you through this or have any ideas for you... oh, that's right, you're breeding mongrels and probably (certainly) have no clue what you are doing.

Best of luck to you and to those poor mongrel pups - hope they don't end up like about 50% of dogs of their mix as shedding, poor-temperamented fiends that are dumped when their ignorant or apathetic owners run out of credit cards to charge their corrective surgeries for congenital health problems...

Do the dogs no longer have settling on marks? Ours had been regularly indexed as (made up examples): black and tan male with 2 white forefeet - reserved, crimson feminine without a markings - to be had, and so on. You relatively don't have drawback telling 4 week ancient dogs aside from each and every different, through that age they will have to be commencing to have certain personalities. If the problem is the consumers being worried that you are going to "dog change" on them... good they are going to relatively simply need to believe you, would possibly not they? I do not do not forget collars trustworthy for unweaned dogs. They are nonetheless beautiful fragile, bodily, they usually move slowly in every single place each and every different and their mother and their atmosphere and will without problems snag themselves or get injured.
