When I bought a house in Texas they had a special program for Veterans to get a low rate on a home mortgage. I will soon move to Florida, and I am wondering if they have a similar program for veterans? When I do a Google search, I see many links regarding Florida VA home loans, but none that look legit and all requiring that I give my personal information just to see a rate. Which should not matter, because in Texas, all veterans got the same rate no matter what. Please send a link that shows the rate in Florida without me having to send my personal information.
You are confusing a Texas program with a federal one.
Texas has a home loan program for Texas vets, usually called a T-Vet, that is separate from VA loans. There is a cap on the loan amount (it was $20,000 when I used mine in 1990) and you can do parallel first trust deeds with a T-Vet and any other loan source including conventional, VA and FHA loans to top up to whatever loan amount you need. You must either be on active duty in Texas with a Texas domicile or have enlisted from Texas if you are not on active duty. The rate is set by the State of Texas and is fixed once the loan is funded, but the rate is adjusted periodically to reflect a discount from more common sources of funding.
Some other states have similar programs. I don't know if Florida does, but unless you enlisted from Florida the odds are nearly zero that you'd be eligible.
Traditional VA loans float their interest rate with the market. You can't get quoted an exact rate without applying for a loan. Once you get to Florida, check out local sources of funding. Most lenders handle VA loans, so there's no need to go on line and submit personal information to an untrusted site.
Bash has nailed it. Florida does not have a loan program for vets like the Texas T-Vet program. Your only source of VA funding will be lenders that do VA loans.
Start with local credit unions or community banks where you will be moving to. I personally recommend credit unions unless you belong to USAA in which case I'd also recommend USAA Federal Savings Bank. You'll get a very fair deal from either source and won't have to worry about submitting sensitive personal data on untrusted websites.
Most mortgage lenders can arrange VA loans but in today's market you can get conventional or fha loans with similar rates and without the VA restrictions. Contact you bank or local mortgage broker for full details.
