is being overly attached to a pet a sign of borderline personality disorder, or some other mental disorder?

having a pet gives you the chance to bond with it and feel like a parent! im exactly the same with mine :) its called being a good.. loyal owner :)
That is nothing brandy_j. I have home servalance cameras hooked up all over my house just to keep an eye on my two cats, and I can view them anytime I want through the internet. And I think that I am perfectly normal. No I didn't have the servalance before I had the cats that was afterward just to keep an eye on them.
It means that you care for her, why don't you get another dog to keep her company? Then you don't have to worryabout her being lonely x I don't think that this alone is enough to mean that you have a mental disorderbut if you are worried then get an appointment with your GP x
I think its good you have a strong attachment to pets. Too many people disregard their pets and throw them out when they get bored of them. Try to take it easy though. You can't be with them all the time. And just like when you have kids you have to let go sometimes and let them be independent even though its hard.
