How did you feel when you realized?

that your children know more than you do? I struggled with it for a while because, to be honest, I felt like I had lost some of my 'parental stature' in their eyes. But it was an undeniable fact that the world was changing at a pace that I had neither the ability or desire to keep up with. When I started asking them to enlighten ME on this, that or the other thing...our relationships went to a whole new level and I actually think we bonded more than we would have if I had stayed "stuck" in needing to feel like I had all the answers.

I can not hold a candle to mine. My daughter had only one B in her life in jr. high, 4.0, English sterling scholar, ClassValedictorian. Writing scholarship at 15. Chemistry scholarship at 16 attended university for 6 weeks that summer and earned 8 credit hours in six weeks.Entered college with sophmore status and about 38 college credits by advanced classes. Then there is me thick as a board and twice as dumb, I tell her I sacafised my brains so she could have double.Good mom huh ?

I never felt like I knew more than my children. I believe we go through stages when we are babies & when we are old & in between but when a person is acting a certain way it has nothing to with knowledge. I believe in infinite intelligence. The intelligence that takes care of all the things I don't understand like how I breath or how my phone works. I just do my life & don't worry about that.

My son is grown & much more educated than I will ever be but I am his Momma, so it's just the role we play. I am 5' & he is 6 but I will whoop his asss. I am kidding around to show the picture of how it all is, he is very intelligent but I have my own intelligence. My husband can barely read or write but if you need him to invent something to fix something up for you he is the one to go to.

So it's a unquie thing but I was not even thinking of myself as an authority over my child. Just a Mommy there to love.

They stay ahead of us with technology, but not on all subjects. There are some things a person can only learn by graduating from the College of Hard Knocks. One example would be staying out of debt. Everyone eventually learns that the hard way.

When my daughters started giving me the facts in life, I was delighted. I am like you, as far as feeling like we bonded more. I still enjoy listening to them talk and let them feel like they are in charge when they explain things to me. I have always wanted to build up their confidence, but I won't hesitate to explain to them, if I feel they are wrong on something.
It makes my heart feel good to see my kids grown-up and know more than me about certain things.

Yeah you! Some never realize that. It must be miserable to have to keep up the pretense that you know everything.

The other tiny detail is, they may know more about some things. But you have more knowledge about other things.
