To which Old Testament scripture is Christ referring in John 6:45?

I am preparing to teach a course on the Old Testament. The first session is tomorrow night and I intend to start by pointing out that the OT was the scripture that Jesus himself knew and referred to. I am cross-referencing the incidences of the phrase "it is written" in the NT to the corresponding scriptures in the OT. Using my Bible's topical guide and other sources, the job has been made a lot easier, but I am unable to find a direct reference for the following scripture:

John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

It appears that the specific reference is to the phrase "and they shall be all taught of God." Can anyone tell me what scripture in the prophets this refers to? Thanks in advance.

Erik, I think you have misinterpretted my meaning, since my statement means EXACTLY the opposite of what you have written. The Old Testament was the only scripture available to Jesus. (I know that the scriptures at that time were not actually called the "Old Testament" so if that is your point it is rather too fine.) That there was no New Testamentt at the time is exactly my point. As to the poster who decried spiritual illiteracy, congratulations on a well-considered and clearly reasoned point - said nobody to you - ever. For the others, thank you for the time and consideration (not to mention good sources) you have given me. I appreciate the depth of your answers and the thoughts you have shared. I believe that, for the specific need I have, the simplest answer was actually the best, but I thank you all for your help.

(Isaiah 54:13) And all your sons will be persons taught by Jehovah, and the peace of your sons will be abundant.

(Jeremiah 31:34) “And they will no more teach each one his companion and each one his brother, saying, ‘KNOW Jehovah!’ for they will all of them know me, from the least one of them even to the greatest one of them,” is the utterance of Jehovah. “For I shall forgive their error, and their sin I shall remember no more.”

(Micah 4:2) And many nations will certainly go and say: “Come, YOU people, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will instruct us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For out of Zion law will go forth, and the word of Jehovah out of Jerusalem.

Also, if you read further down from John 6:45, in verse 47 Jesus says, "Most truly I say to YOU, He that believes has everlasting life."... This is a very important point when talking about Jesus Christ, his whole entire ministry was based on God's Kingdom. The Bible explains Jesus’ lifework, saying: “He went around throughout the whole of Galilee, teaching . . . and preaching the good news of the kingdom.” (Matthew 4:23) Jesus did not simply preach, or proclaim, God’s Kingdom to others. He also taught people—that is, he instructed, explained, and convinced by sound reasoning. The Kingdom was the theme of Jesus’ message.

He helped interested ones to see that God's Kingdom is a real heavenly government in which he will be king of that government. John 18:36

Also that God's Kingdom will sanctify God's name Jehovah and the will took place in Heaven will be taken place on earth. Matthew 6:9,10. Also there are many powerful works that will be preformed through God's Kingdom also that will restore this earth to Paradise and bring human existence back to a perfection. having everlasting life on a Paradise earth. Psalms 37:29

When talking about Jesus, these are the important things we must talk about. Because he heralded God's Kingdom and so should we.

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

The scripture at Isaiah 50; 4 relates to being taught by Almighty God, Jehovah himself by means
of Gods arrangements. Isaiah was one of those prophets who spoke as a learned man by the
very "Holy Spirit" of God that came upon him. Quoting the scripture from the KJV it reads;
" The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word
in season to him that is weary; he waketh morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear as the
learned. 5 - The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away
back."
At Proverbs 8; 1-6 it reads from the KJV; " Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her
voice? 2- She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3-
She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. 4- Unto you O
men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men. 5- O ye simple, understand wisdom; and, ye
fools, be ye of an understanding heart. 6- Hear; for I shall speak of excellant things; and the
opening of my lips shall be right things.
In the book of Daniel we read at chapter 4 of the banding of the root stump with copper and iron
that it may not grow but yet shall not die. After the seven times pass over in relation to this stump
the bands are removed and the kingdom stump flourishes in growth. For at that time God will have
given to the one he chose the Kingdom as this stump represents and the one whom he has set up
over it has instructed his shepherds and disciples to go forth into the cities two by two teaching
this good news of the Kingdom. Note all of this happened or happens at Gods instruction.
This knowledge Daniel has given by means of the "Holy Spirit" of God is meaty and very much
needed in understanding and gaining wisdom of Almighty Gods purpose and arrangements for and
on behalf of mankind. Seek and you will find and the truth shall set you free!! I hope this helps you
in your earch and understanding to some greater degree.

For starters, I wouldn't tell my students "that the OT was the scripture that Jesus himself knew and referred to", since that is patently untrue; it assumes the existence of a New Testament Jesus would have been familiar with in his own lifetime.
