I live in a population 14,000 town in the semi-middle of no where (southern Minnesota). I would most likely escape my one story house, and go to a farm outside of town because it would take a bit for them to get that far. I would steal a horse (or cow, both are relatively ride able and the latter offers a food source) and then traverse to the norther part of the state, further away from civilization. I think Canada would be one of the better places to be. It isn't 100% developed and the climate would freeze the zombies each winter. Yes, they would survive for a longer spance of time (ten years vs. five) but it would be moderately safe in the winter, and if you could get to a rough mountainous terrain you would be pretty much set, because only one in three zombies can climb a ladder.

Get away from civilization! You and your group need to find someplace in a cold climate and fortify it- think castle here! You will then need your survival skills- hunting, fishing, food preservation (canning, smoking) gardening, natural and emergency medical, etc...

First thing would be prepare yourself now with a few necessary survival skills- which are good for any disaster- you never know when a freak storm tornado can come by- destroying your community for an untold amount of time.

The City Girl's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse is a witty and informative book filled with anecdotes and tips to surviving any scenario. http://www.amazon.com/Haven-Strange/e/B008KNDDYE/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1
