Really scared about basic training (air force)?

So, I leave tomorrow for MEPS, Tuesday for basic (maybe depending on the hurricane). I am scared out of my mind all of a sudden. It didnt really hit me until two weeks ago and now it's really hitting me. I'm just really stressed and scared. I've never been away from home for more than a month and that did not go well lol. I don't have anything going on with my life here so I know it will be good for me, but I'm just scared. Thanks for any advice that I get!

I'm with you dude, I leave tomorrow for meps as well. Then ship Tuesday for my first day of summer break. All I know is follow all advice you've been given and hang in there. You and me start the same day, so don't be alone, your not going to be the only one scared and worried.

Been there done that.
Make a decision to do it and go do it. THink about all of the places you'll see and things you'll get to do. You wouldn't get to do those if you stayed home.

First, make a list of phone numbers and addresses of people to write.
Second, make friends with people when you get thtere. Have a good, helpful attitude and appear motivated and hyped up to be there, especially in front of TI's. Don't flinch when they get in your face and scream at you. Don't worry about it...they won't touch you but they will test your fear. Let them. it's their job to bring out that brave person inside of you.

Go to church on Sundays. Pay attention in class and take good notes. Try hard on PT tests.

Above all, know that time doesn't stop. You won't be there forever. In fact, it will fly by. Invision yourself in your dress blues graduating and going into San Antonio on the Riverwalk.

Stay organized. Remember, though, no matter how fast you do something, it won't be right or fast enough (until you graduate). It's a mental game. Never take it personal.

Your fear is normal. This is a big decision but if you put your heart into it, you won't regret it. It's something you'll be proud of hte rest of your life. THink about this. You sacrifce a few weeks in basic for a lifetime of pride. It's worth it.

Probably for the last few weeks it wasn't real. Since this is your last weekend at home, it's real. Do it. You'll be ok.

Too bad I can't put *agree* and *helpful* on Teachers answer.

I'd like to add that they'll keep you so busy that you won't have time to feel homesick or much of anything outside your immediate surroundings.
Just remember that you can put up with anything they throw at you for eight and a half weeks.

Its going to be fine. You are going to get homesick for a while, but so will the other people. You are going to get some stress, but life is that way. In the end, you will be closer to be being a mature individual. Also, you will be serving your country which is honorable.
