No, no, NO!!! Do not go with Win8!
Win8 is for tablet computing, NOT laptops!
There are too many bugs to be worked out; It is not yet ready. You can read articles on the register:

People said in the beginning about how great Vista was as opposed to XP. Vista was called 'Longhorn' back then. Vista was a bomb; It only lasted a year before they replaced it with Win7.
People just wanted something new and different; Think iPhone.
Even XP did not get really great until service pack 2. Why do you think XP has persisted for as long as it has?
Even Win7 still has unresolved issues, but it is getting better as they fine tune it.
Best stay with Win7; You can always upgrade for only $29 if ever you want to step up; If you go with Win8 you cannot fall back without a LOT of trouble.
Win8 is more of an eye candy consumer OS; For the moment the future is Win7. Win8 will be a bigger bomb than Vista.

I have been using Windows 8 for the past month (using consumer preview) and I can personally say that it's worth the money, the new UI is sleek and modern. It may take a few days to get used to but you'll find that it is a lot easier to navigate. There is a new Windows Store, dedicated to hosting free and paid apps that suit you. After I installed Windows 7 again, I started to suffer withdrawal symptoms from not having the new start menu. Also, search YouTube to find out some reviews of Windows 8. If you don't like it, my second choice would be Windows 7. My conclusion, DEFINITELY. Buy it, it is actually really good :)
