How should I tell my friend I'm actually going to Australia in January?
Okay so I have an interesting situation. I have a month off from college in January and I am going to visit a friend who lives in Australia over the break. My parents can't know I'm really going (they think i'm going to Boston to visit a friend) because of reasons I don't want to get into. Therefore, I don't want many people to know where I am actually going because it increases the chance that my parents may find out where I am actually going.
However, it is unsafe to travel out of the country when nobody knows that you are out of the country, lol. So, I have decided that my best friend will be given all the details of my trip. He goes to school very far away and will be home by mid December. I leave at the very end of December.
When he gets here, should I tell him in person where I am really going or should I write him a letter telling everything in detail and tell him not to open it until I am on the plane? I feel like the letter idea would be super epic and personal. Also, that way he would have everything written down (such as the address I will be staying at, phone number I may be reached at). Also, he is a very cautious person and may not want me to travel all the way to Australia alone. I don't really want to deal with his protest. The letter would be a good way to be like "this is what is happening. Deal with it." Also, it would be really fun to talk about it with him in person and have someone to be excited with.
What do you think?
Should I talk about it with him in person? Write the letter? Other ideas?
