Do you think it's okay to use old books for art?

I bought this old book last night for ten dollars, hempfield by David Grayson, it has an inscription in the front,
To Sylvia and Arthur
With wishes for a long life and much happiness
(And I think it then says this) 20/3/14
George and Minnie cook

Now I think that's what the date reads, around 1914 was when it was first published too.
So um.. I wanted to journal it, and write in it and highlight and draw, kinda make it a journal, keep all the words there but go over them and stuff. Art. You know?

What do you think? Is that okay? Or should I keep it for special and heritage?

im confused , if you write over the words in the book you will not be able to read the orginal words or the ones youve written , what is the point it would just turn into a big black blob ...

art ... im not quite sure
its not valuble , im pretty sure you can get it for free on amazon ...
