But why did people start hating Nickelback all of a sudden? I've seen other answers saying that their songs are basically copies of the ones before them, but if that were the only reason, this hate wouldn't have just started a few months ago, right? I can understand Skrillex and other dubstep, but saying that Nickelback is ruining music? How are they ruining it exactly? I'm not trying to defend them, just super confused xDDD

I think the hating started because they're marketed to the masses as a hard rock/post grunge band, when in reality they're a rock band made for country music listeners. They've straddled the line between country and rock since their fifth album IMO. Plus, they've somehow managed to not only maintain their fans, but also grow in popularity which just makes rock music fans all the more angry because there are SO many other amazing bands out there that don't get any recognition.
Me personally, I think their first three albums are actually fairly decent. But after that, it's just meh...

Since Nickelback is considered a "rock band", people hate on it because it sounds similar to country music and I'm pretty sure you understand people's feelings towards country music.
