Is gas heating "better" than electric?
What are the considerations? We are looking at a home that only has electric heating and would be coming from gas. Is this a major deal? A little more expensive? Other concerns/comments/considerations?

its just more expensive. On the plus side though, if you're talking about radiant floor heating is that you can apparently keep the heat lower in your house and still feel just as warm because the furniture and floor and whatnot will be warmer than the air.
Look into doing work to sea up any air infiltration and insulate more if possible, it would probably have a better return on investment than switching over to gas.

Go with gas if possible. New drilling technologies are making natural gas less expensive and there is at least a 200 year supply in the US alone. Electric rates will only continue to climb as Coal fired plants are closed, nuclear plants have a harder time being approved and hydro plants grow older and the availability of useable bodies of water dry up. Old and decaying electrical grids mean that outages will become more common place.
