How much spending money do I need for 16 days in Costa Rica?

I am going with a tour group in late Feb and was trying to figure out my budget. I am planing for $1000 for optionals. Like whitewater rafting,zip lining, hikes and all that other junk. I don't think I will need that much but I would rather have extra rather than not enough.
I am having trouble figuring out how much spending money I will need. The website says to bring $400 to $500 for food. So other than that how much spending money should I budget for?

Restaurants are not that expensive, less than Canada or USA. For example, I ate a tuna fillet in Manuel Antonio for 16$ at The Avion.
About lodging, you can compare price on this website:

Zip lining and rafting will be expensive, between 50-100$.

National Park are at 10$ fees entrance.

With 1000$ you'll be alright.

Buses and taxis  are cheap too.
