Repainting my room a lighter color,?
My room is currently a bright neon green. I want to paint it more of an ivory color. Do I have to prime it or anything first or do I just paint?

a lot of paint these days has a primer in it ...granted you are not buying walmart brand paint...
but take a paint sample to lowe's or home depot and ask...if you need a primer
my favorite paint brands...valspar @ lowes in a satin
and bher @ home depot in a satin...
the satin have a better tone than the flat colored paint and it wipes clean...these paint brands from either storeyou would not need a primer...
you could get a sample and paint a small area of wall in your room to if it covers and you like it
i would go a more popular tan...or bher bamboo which sounds green but is a nice tan..in the green tones....ivory is too plain..boring ...too close to white
lots of color choices beyond white ivory...

A lot of today's good (expensive) paint already has primer added into it. Your only concern with not putting on primer is that you'd end up having to put multiple layers of the ivory paint on the green paint. Good paint is expensive, while primer is usually cheaper. In my opinion, you should just prime to ensure you don't run into any problems involving budget (and the wall!). Good luck!

Primer is cheaper than paint so it would cost less to primer it first and then you would be less likely to have to second coat it with more expensive paint. You only have to wait how ever many hours the primer label says before you paint over the primer. You will have a much nicer job if you primer first.
A primer from wicks is good, they have a huge selection, they also ofton have sales. I am from the uk so I don't really know any American places but I hope I helped!
