How has the weather been in Yellowknife lately?
Yes, I know I can look at the forecasts and history at wunderground.com. That tells me it has been cold (no surprise) and that there has been and will be fog and clouds. Can someone fine tune that a bit? I will be visiting there soon. Have the fog and clouds as reported been blocking out views of the northern lights? Have there been decent gaps in the clouds? Do you get above the fog on higher ground, or does it pretty much get fogged in anywhere in the area?
Thank you.
Thank you, Capitalgentleman. Your explanation of what is highly likely of course makes sense as expected. It would be nice if someone currently in or near Yellowknife has some observations about what if any terrain might be above the fog. Thank you for the website. Alas, it looked discouraging last night. It was white out, which I think is consistent with clouds or fog backlit by the full moon.
Thank you, George L. Have you been getting any decent gaps in the fog and clouds at night lately?
At the moment Thursday night is the only one with an encouraging forecast at wunderground.com
Thursday Night
nt_partlycloudy Partly cloudy. Low of -20F. Winds less than 5 mph.
The Canadian Space Agency site is showing a patch of blue that I guess is clear sky, while wunderground.com currently calls the weather Light Snow. No aurora shows in the CSA image.
