Can I add water from my freshwater tank to my saltwater tank to decrease specific gravity?
the gravity in my saltwater tank is really high. I heard you're suppose to add freshwater or distilled water to it to decrease the gravity. I just wanted to know if it was safe to add water from my freshwater tank to the saltwater one to do the job.

What is the specific gravity you have me curious now . If your tap water is safe and that is what you use to do water changes then you would add that with something like Aqua safe . I would not use the Tropical tanks water no . I use RO water as a top off when water evaporates in my Reef tank ,but i don't have a problem with specific gravity manage to keep mine where it should be .
I surely have the two sparkling water and saltwater. you prefer stay rock to assist sparkling the tank because of the fact saltwater fish decide for a lots cleanser atmosphere. in case you place sand in with stay rock this is going to grow to be stay sand finally so no would desire to spend the further funds for stay sand I surely do no longer understand in case you ought to use gravel. like maximum fish tanks as quickly as its cycled this is no longer probably that lots artwork. in case you have the money i'd say decide for it. this is lots greater exciting staring at a saltwater tank in action then freshwater. although you will learn which you would be able to no longer in good condition many fish in a 20 gallon tank with saltwater. 3 on the main. And non of the enormous fascinating fish like angel fish or butterflies will artwork in that small of a tank.
Why would you do this with dirty tank water from another tank?
While it probably wont kill your fish you will be bringing on all sorts of random nutrients (nitrate - phosphate etc) that could upset the balance of your marine tank, and maybe cause algae blooms etc.
You want to top up with the cleanest water you can find. You tap water is always cleaner than tank water. What is in the tank is old tap water PLUS fish poop, by definition it's got to be dirtier.
Now whether your tap water is clean enough to top up the tank depends on what's in your tap water, and how sensitive your fish are. But if the tank was filled with tap water to start with, then it's probably OK to top up with tap water.
