Peter Houston leaves Utd by 'mutual consent'?

United's most successful manager since Wee Jum, consistent top half finishes, three european 'campaigns'... on paper his record is no bad. Still most Arabs I know are breathing a sigh of relief, there was always the feeling that his heart wasn't in it, and that he was holding us back.

So, who next for the United job? Steven Pressley, jackie McNamara, Mixu Patelainen, Michael O neill, Paul Hartley, Gary Bollan...?

I would have got rid of Houston as soon as he said Dundee United couldn't match his expectations or ambitions, bit f@cking cheeky if you ask me.

If you thought Houston's heart wasnt in it, then Steven Pressley would be the exact opposite of that......He would be my choice.

looks like its gonna be McNamara/Donnelly from Partick. I personally think Paul Hartley might have been better choice. Wee guy with something to prove seems to be his ethos. As faor Houston his time was definitely up. How long can someone live off the back of a Scottish Cup win? And I agree with the earlier comment that he should have been punted as soon as he made that comment about Utd not matching his ambition.

What was he holding you back from, League Titles and last 8 of the Champions League.

I think you've stagnated as a team, a few years back you were turning into quite decent hard to beat side, that was looking good for 3rd place finishes, but that momentum seems to have gone. Maybe it's just time for a change, for the sake of a change...but look at Celtic under Strachan, most of us moaned about his style etc, but he left and it we went further back than before he came in. Can't say any of the names you mention, strike me as being that great or names you'd bite your hand off to have.

The only one from your list that I could see doing a good job would be Mixu. I think Dundee Utd should be on the phone to Jimmy Calderwood to see if he wants the job
