yes they just want your version of the accident so they can match up stories and go from there.

If you have no intentions of retaining an attorney, yes, definitely contact them and give your side of the story. Just keep in mind that ANYTHING you say to them, they can hold against you and will hinder or help your settlement. If it involves serious injuries, I strongly suggest getting an attorney. You can be told exactly what to do to help your case by attorney. If it's just a minor accident, I wouldn't worry, just call them and do your recorded statement.
