Singing "Life of the Party" at 14 years old?
This Saturday, I am auditioning at the performing arts high school that I will be a freshman at next year. It is not an audition to get into the school (I am already in) they are just placing us in classes and groups for next year. For my vocal audition, I am singing "The Life of the Party" from the musical, The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa. I understand that the whole musical is very sexual and promiscuous, and that the character who sings the song is as well, but I understand the lyrics and really enjoy how my voice sounds singing it. I just want to know, is it inappropriate for me to be singing it at the age of 14 as an incoming freshman? The school's theatre program is amazing and that is what I am planning on doing later in life. Some of their past musicals have been Aladdin, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and this year they are doing Zombie Prom, just to give reference. Some of their plays have included Anne Frank, Hamlet, The Learned Ladies, and Shakespeare's Women. So.. If I'm being unclear, basically I'm worried that the teachers who are judging will think the song is too mature for me. If they didn't know my age, I could convincingly be about 17, so I think I will be able to pull it off. I'm pretty set on singing this song though. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks :)
