When you buy a gallon of gas, does the government or the oil company make more money?

I wonder how much the government gets in taxes vs profits for the company doing the work.

The Government, and they don't produce anything for it...

I believe thats well estabished...The government charges more for taxes than the oil company makes in profits.

Feds tax 18 cents a gallon
State taxes vary (~30 cent average)
Average Oil Refinery profit ~11 cents
