Can a leaking Suzuki Marauder VZ800 fuel pump be fixed?

My 2000 Suzuki Maurader VZ800 came back from the shop about a month ago. I started noticing some fluid dripping and have traced it back to gas coming from the fuel pump. It is definitely from the pump body itself, not from the hose connections to the pump.

1) Is this fixable without replacing the pump, and if so, can I do it or will I need a mechanic?

2) Could this have been caused by the shop, or was it just coincidental timing? They cleaned the carbs, replaced the starter, regulator/rectifier, and spark plugs, and jets. They also had it stored for over a year without winterizing it. (Awful shop, only one in town sadly).

Possibly it was stored with no fuel so the seals/gaskets in the pump dried out and created the leak.

It would be fixable but you would have to know what you are doing i.e get a service manual

Mc, nation Boy, jimanddottaylor and Paul are all proper. The diaphragm has ruptured. A new pump should be not more than 20$ or so. Cast off the gasoline lines, do away with the two bolts on each and every aspect of the pump. I feel they are 3/8 bolts bolts but the head is a 12 factor 7/sixteen or three/8, sorry, it is been a even as — as a substitute of the natural 9/sixteen. Be certain the pump push rod (that's driven off the cam shaft) is in the up role. I have held the frenzy rod up with a garments hanger wire at the same time cocking the pump to the left to get the pump lever underneath the rush rod. Push the pump to the block and install the bolts. FYI, it's high-quality to have the gasket already on the pump held to the pump with slightly red RTV silicone before putting in. It's slightly problematic however i am certain you can do it.

Fuel pumps can be repaired but it's a dicey move to try it yourself, best to just replace it with a new or rebuilt pump.

That shop MAY have screwed with the pump to make it fail just to get more business, don't know, wasn't there.
