Girls/women only! Very itchy "down there"?

I'm really itchy in *that area*. I've never had sex and I'm a 15 year old girl. It was itching BEFORE and AFTER I took a shower today and BEFORE and AFTER I shaved there today. I've been rubbing my skin raw trying to get rid of the itch, but it just won't go away. The itching has been on the outside of the lips. :C What could this be from? And what can I do to get rid of the itching?

Please, helpful and relevant answers only. Thanks! :)

P.S. I wear Hanes briefs girl's underwear. I don't know if that would cause it. I mean, I've been using the exact same brand and kind (just different sizes) my whole life and I've never had a problem.

My last period was about two weeks ago so it's not due to my period or anything.

However... Would not taking showers often and not changing underwear often (like once a week or maybe even longer) cause it? I DO use pantiliners every day and change them at LEAST once a day, if not two or three times.

Also, I kind of hate the pharmaceutical medicine because I'm more for the natural remedies.

It sounds like you might have a yeast infection. Yeast infection and bacterial vaginitis are cause by abnormal ph levels that lead to the good and bad bacteria that naturally live in your vagina to become imbalanced. You can purchase an at home vaginal ph level screening kit that can tell you if you have an imbalance of your ph levels. If you do, I would suggest seeing your doctor. Yeast infections and bacterial vaginitis have similar symptoms and your doctor can do a few simple tests to find out which one you have. Both are very common in women and teens. It's nothing to worry about. Your doctor will give you antibiotics, or once you find out which infection it is there are over the counter all natural options you can purchase from Walmart or a drug store if you would like.

However, sometimes you can just have vaginal itch because of irritation due to shaving or as a result from having your period. You could have just a slight imbalance of your vaginal ph not severe enough to cause a yeast or bacterial vaginitis infection. If that is the case I would try using a ph balancing wash such as summers eve or vagasil along with using vagasil medicated wipes. They will relieve the itching you're feeling.

Ultimatly you can just buy an at home screening kit and go from there. Or I would start by using a wash and the medicated wipes. If your symptoms do not go away and persist for more than four days I would definetly go see your doctor.

Good luck. :)

It sounds like thrush/yeast infection, which you can get even if you're not sexually active. In fact, most women get it at some point in their lives, so it's nothing to be embarrassed about. The cause would be anything that causes the pH balance of your vagina to change, so for example if you have started taking contraceptives or if you have recently been taking antibiotics. It could also be an allergy to detergent, or chemicals in a new pair of underwear if you wore them without washing (or the wash didn't remove all the chemicals). You can pick up over-the-counter medications for thrush, or you can even try adding a cup of baking soda to your bath and just soaking for a while. Try to stick with natural products, avoid harsh soaps right around your vaginal area, and wear cotton underwear (without a pantyliner), at least until the itching subsides. Thrush isn't caused by poor hygiene, so definitely don't try to overdo cleaning "down there". See the eHow link for more tips. If it doesn't start to go away after a couple of days of treatment, then it might be something else, but since you're not sexually active, thrush is a safe bet.

Well had you shaved recently before when it started itching? That can cause all sorts of irritation. But it could be a yeast infection. Maybe you should try getting more breathable underwear. Idk how those underwear are. Or if you've been on your period recently and use pads that could cause some itchiness. But id really ask your mom because she will probably know what to get you to temporarily get rid of the itching for the moment.
