Do I need a license to own broadcasting equipment?

I'm thinking about buying a CB radio witch I know I don't need a license for. The one I'm looking at is also able to broadcast on regular radio stations. Now I know you need a license to run a radio channel. However is simply owning the equipment for it. The reason I want this one is for the added range because I spend a lot of time in the car and it's always handy to have when your going through 3 states with two pickups hauling stuff in the back. So is simply owning this CB enugh for me to need a license?

No you don't, as a firefighter I often listen to my own and other department's broadcasts. However while you can listen, transmitting on those frequencies IS illegal (I think it's a federal law).

No, you don't need a license for it.

If however you are caught using it to disrupt radios and stations, you will be fined.
So make sure you use it properly

The same goes for people owning police scanners. They are allowed to have them but if they are caught using them for illegal means, they will be fined for the improper use of the scanner.

No.

You do not need a license for CB. Haven't for years.

Extra power on CB freqs is, however, illegal.
