I have two mini dachshunds and we decided to rescue a bengal. Of course we were scared they may not get along and with the cat being an exotic breed we were worried about that also. When we brought him home our dogs were very excited to have another animal in the house and wanted to play with him, the cat, right away but he just ran under the bed. It took a few weeks until he was comfortable coming out and walking around with the dogs. Here we are two in a half years later and he plays with them, protects them, snuggles with them. They truly all love each other. This is my story though and was very lucky they all got along. This does not always happen. I recommended adopting a cat from a shelter that is either a kitten so they can become accustom to the dog(s) or an older cat that is known to have grown up with dogs or are good with dogs. This may always take some time but you can also ask to bring home the kitten/cat for a few days to do a trail to see how they do with the dog(s). Best of luck! Some of the cutest moments are the love of different species. Makes you wonder how they can love each other and how sad sometimes we as humans can't love one other. Take care!!

yes and no. once you have a dog, usually the cat will be fine with it because it knows its not the only pet in the house. if the cat is there with the new puppy though, usually the cat will get jealous and not get along with the dog. but there's always a chance the the cat will HATE your dog and there's not much you can do about it.
It also depends on your dogs size. the cat might feel threatened if its bigger then him or her.
If they like each other they will play just fine.
personally, im a dog person but if you want a cat you can just take the chance of your cat not liking your dog.

I have a Black Lab that lived in a feral/stray state for about it's first year. This environment caused the dog to kill and eat cats.
Today this dog enjoys the company of our 2 household cats. To that extent he plays with them, grooms them, shares food with them, nurses them when they have been sick or injured.
The dog is also the cats' ''rule giver'' and utilizes his talents to keep the cats in line with the rules of the house. I won't go so far as to say he wouldn't like a dog playmate more, but he does seem to be content with the present arrangement.

Well, when I had a dog it had major fights with my cat. All pets are different. My cat had a major hissy fit with my dog. They allways went back and forth fighting with each other. It's your choice.
