I never used special soap. My kids have been fine. Just use regular dye/scent free.
I never have had any problem washing my kids clothes in regular detergent. However my husband is allergic to tide. A couple of years ago when my husband got out of the military I started making my own detergent to save me money, it is super easy. 1 bar of glycerine soap grated finely dissolved (in hot water and added into a five gallon bucket of water. (fifty cents to 200 loads isn't a bad price for detergent). I cut the recipie down for storage purposes I use half a bar of soap to 2 1/2 old detergent container. And that is it. Also after some toddler swallowing chemical incidents I have reduced all chemical cleaners in my house I now use vinegar to destroy mold/mildew/odors like pee poop and spitup. It is a natural disinfectant to so I use it for kitchen clean up and bathroom cleanup. Sometimes I use baking soda or washing soda to clean the diapers when I run out of detergent before I have time to make a new batch. The baking soda works just fine and banishes the odor while whitening the laundry. (BTW roaches hate baking soda and will do anything to stay away from it.) Then I found a shampoo recipie using baking soda (which is dermatologist reccomended) and I use a tsp of baking soda to 8 ounces of water in my cleansing bottle I brought home form the hospital to clean my kids and their hair (no more burning eyes and fighting sudsy kids to get them clean) it rinses right off and leaves them smelling baby fresh. I still use detangler though the recipie for that is 1/3 conditioner to 2/3 water in a spray bottle. There are many other recipies for natural things that are good for babies sensitive skin online and they will save you money and take less than a minute to make on pinterest and other places online.
With my first I did the 4 months they recommend as they say the skin is most fragile and sensitive before 4 months...
This baby I bought 1 good sized container of the all free and clear and wash everyone's clothes in it, but once it's gone I'm not getting another one and everybody's will be washed in the regular detergent...
